Visit the Center

The SKRC is located in the Jutila Center for Global Design & Business in the old Portage Hospital in Hancock, two doors down from the Kangas Café. The Center hosts a number of exhibits spotlighting sustainable projects and resources in the Keweenaw Peninsula, a small reference library, and a conference area.

Hours
The SKRC is open to the public during regular business hours, except during scheduled events.

If you or your group are working towards sustainability and are looking for a comfortable place to meet, the round table at the SKRC can host small groups of 8-10 people. The reference library at the SKRC offers resources for green living

The SKRC reference library offers books, magazines, and video resources on a variety of topics regarding sustainable design and development. New resources are added frequently. Come on in and browse.

 
The SKRC is the headquarters for the Keweenaw Green Map® Project

Green Map® System promotes inclusive participation in sustainable community development worldwide, using mapmaking as a medium. Open Green Maps are designed to be explored, customized and enhanced by people like you. You can share your insights, ratings and images or suggest, compare, and share sites. Wendy E. Brawer is Green Map System's Founder and Director. She has been an eco-designer, public educator and consultant since 1990. Wendy created the first Green Apple Map of New York City in 1992 and published the 5th citywide edition in 2006. Wendy initiated the global Green Map System in 1995 and continues to lead its development. She is founder of a small eco-design firm, Modern World Design, that focuses on energy generation and waste reduction. Recognized as one of the top 50 Visonairies by Utne Magazine in 2009.
